Despite its peaceful setting Halikounas is an easy 5 km drive from the popular resort of Saint George (Agios Georgios) which gives you a full range of facilities and nightlife. The beach of Prassoudi is found some 5-6 kilometers southwestern to the scenic inland village of Agios Mattheos and some 28 kilometers southwestern to the town of Corfu, situated at the foot of mountain Gamelion, known from many myths of Greek Mythology, today on this mountain it is found the famous Monastery of Pantokratoras.
You will enjoy swimming at this beach, but the nearby beaches of Kanouli or Issos are also a good alternative. And if you have a boat, you may visit the small skerries of Prassoudia and Pentanissia, not far from the coast.
The best part of the Halikounas beach is that it has soft sand dunes and is perfectly safe for swimming. Also, it is one beach which is comparatively less crowded than its counterparts elsewhere on the island of Corfu.
